A Decade in the Making

I began writing Dark Awakening just after I read about the Georgia Guidestones, an American Stonehenge of sort that mysteriously appeared in Georgia in 1980. A guide for how man should live in harmony with the earth, the first message in the edict was sobering: reduce the world population to 500,000,000.
So, with pen in hand, I simply began the story and decided to see where it took me. Dark Awakening is at its heart, a love story that spans time; where the complexities of love become apparent, and traditional notions of politics and religion are challenged. Much like the way conspiracy theories grip us and force us to reexamine our beliefs, the story of Caitriona Sinclair and Duncan MacKinnon forces us to do the same.
About the Author
Karlene Cameron lives in Colorado where she practices marketing, chases sunshine, and dallies in wine, whiskey and coffee. Karlene is the author of the 5-star reviewed trilogy Dark Awakening, Dark Gathering and Dark Storm, and has written several articles for national publications including Appaloosa Journal, Performance Horse magazine and several newspapers. She blames her conspiracy theory obsession on her sister who, to this day, swears we never sent a man to the moon. When not writing, Karlene can be found plunking away at the piano, rafting white water, or enjoying a good cup of coffee (or wine) depending on the hour. She is currently working on a collection of short horror stories, Here There Be Monsters, and her next romance novel, Immortal Flame: The Wuivre.
